Purpose of Role

You will assist in the packing of our good food bags which are sent home every week to students in need, to help close their weekend hunger gap. Each week, we send home between 15-18 items and you will be filling the bags with these items. You will work with a team of about 8 other volunteers to fill the bags.The bags are then placed in bins for our partner schools. Delivery drivers will deliver the bins next morning to the schools.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Walk in an assembly line to fill each bag with required items. 

  • Assist in the counting of bags to confirm correct quantity of bags per school.. 

  • Assist in the filling of tote bins with bags for each school.

  • Finally, help stack the full bins in alphabetic sequence by school name, in readiness for drivers to pick up next day.

Time Requirements

Each packing shift takes about 2 hours. 

There is flexibility with this role. You can sign up to attend one shift, or sign up to come out every week. We welcome all help. 

 

These packing shifts normally take place on Thursdays from 10:30am-12:30pm. In weeks where the Friday is a P.A. Day or public holiday, this packing shift will be moved forward to the Wednesday.

Skills and Qualifications

  • An understanding of safe food handling

  • A can-do attitude

  • Comfort with repetitive tasks

  • Comfort with walking for the duration of the shift 

Please note that at this time you will be required to wear a mask for the duration of your shift as an added safety measure for our volunteers.

Orientation and Training
For your first shift we ask that you arrive 15 minutes early to receive an orientation session. Staff will be on hand to greet you, give you a tour and answer any questions you may have. 


Inside the Packing Room, our Packing Shift Leader assigns tasks and ensures that the pack runs smoothly.

Overall, our Volunteer Coordinator is always happy to discuss future opportunities and connect you with our incredible network of volunteers. 

 

Screening 

The only requirements are that you are triple vaccinated against Covid-19, and that you are comfortable with walking for the duration of this shift.
