Food4Kids started in Hamilton in 2011 when Founder, Lena Bassford, discovered a gap in food services for kids. Although there were a number of school nutrition programs feeding kids during the day at school, kids were going hungry on the weekends. Lena developed the Food4Kids program and grew it into a major success in Hamilton and Halton. Soon, other communities were noticing Food4Kids and its impact and other passionate individuals started Food4Kids in their areas too.
In 2017 Food4Kids Ontario was incorporated to oversee the development of new and emerging Food4Kids programs within Ontario. In February, 2019, Food4Kids Ontario approved Food4Kids Guelph as a standalone program.
